2023 FLAND Summer Conference and Book Study
“Finding Common Ground”
March 1 - August 1: 10 assignment Asynchronous Book Study (only for those seeking PD credit)
August 3 - 4: Hampton Inn and Suites Northwest; Bismarck, ND (conference)
Join the Foreign Language Association of North Dakota (FLAND) for the 2023 Summer Conference course, "Finding Common Ground." In this conference course, participants will participate in a book study (asynchronously) and also attend (in-person) the FLAND conference August 3 and 4, 2023 at Hampton Inn and Suites Northwest; Bismarck, ND.
To receive 2 Professional Development credits, you must participate in the book study prior to and attend the in-person conference. To receive 1 Professional Development credit, you must complete the book study prior to August 1, 2023. If you do not want Professional Development credits, sign up and attend the conference on August 3 and 4. Attending only the conference does not meet the requirements for hours required for the Professional Development credits.
The central piece of this course will be the book Common Ground: Second Language Acquisition Theory Goes to the Classroom, by Florencia G. Henshaw and Maris D. Hawkins.
Participants will read and complete the assignments outlined below.

$195 - FLAND Membership Dues 2023-2024 & Conference Registration (if you are doing the book study and attending the conference, the book study fee is waived)
$70 - FLAND Membership Dues 2023-2024 & Book Study Fee
$175 - FLAND Retired Membership (gratis) & Conference Registration
Professional Development Credit: Through North Dakota University System
$100 for 2 Professional Development Credits for participating in BOTH the book study and conference.
$50 for 1 Professional Development Credit for participating in the online, asynchronous book study

Once you have paid your registration fee to FLAND, you will receive an invite to join a Google Classroom for the book study portion, which you will work on at your own pace.

All discussion questions must be completed by August 1, 2023 for Professional Development credit.

Please join us at the Bistro Wednesday night for social hour from 6-8 to relax before the conference begins. (1103 E. Front Ave, Bismarck. This is optional. There will be food and drinks available for purchase.)
And also join us at Fort Lincoln State Park Commissary for the FLAND Awards Banquet on Thursday, August 3. FLAND will cover the entrance fee for all vehicles entering the park. Our social hour will begin at 6 PM, followed by a buffet meal catered by Lady J's at 7 PM. All Current and Retired Foreign Language teachers and guests are invited. Cost is $40 per plate. Retired members who would like to attend the banquet, but not the conference should email Erika Feole at treasurerfland@gmail.com for payment options.
